P5. Preparing for a university application

Applying for the course:
Once I had done research on university courses, to apply to the ones I considered attending I firstly set up an account on UCAS.

For the application process, I had to do the following:
- Select up to 5 courses to apply to
- Fill in personal details about myself
- Fill in details about my past qualifications, and the current subjects I am enrolled onto
- Write a personal statement
- Write about past work experience or jobs
- Get references from teachers and my progress coach
- Send it off

For the interview:
For my interview, I brought both a print portfolio, a digital portfolio, and a memory stick with all of the work on (for back up). I also brought a DVD including individual short films and my showreel in case they wished to play it back on a DVD player.

Print Portfolio including:
- Art
- Photography
- Scripts
- Storyboards
- Essays
- Production paperwork (shooting schedule, shot list, call sheets)

Digital Portfolio:
- Website (hannahgautrey.com)
- Showreel (link on website)

Memory stick
- Everything (photographs of art, and PDFs of scripts etc...)

Confirming my choices:
Once I heard back from all of the universities, I had to reply to my offers. I chose Film Production at Arts University as my firm choice, Film at the University of Westminster as my insurance choice, and declined the rest.

Directing and Cinematography Showreel:

For the directing showreel, the first short film The Last Birthday was produced on the BFI Film Academy run by the National Film and Television School. The second and last films The Wooden House and Loot were produced for a Media Level 3 Diploma assignment/unit, and the third The Apartment was produced in my spare time. For my cinematography showreel, all of the work was produced outside of college by collaborating with friends (apart from Loot and The Wooden House) and some I also produced, directed and edited such as the second animation and the last film Capturing a Moment.
