P4. Career and Study Options Flow Diagram

After Long Road, I plan to study Film Production at Arts University Bournemouth. While I'm enrolled onto the course I plan to do activities outside of university which will work towards my career plan - such as borrowing equipment from AUB and collaborating with friends on the course to make films in our spare time (also submitting them into film festivals). I also will be applying for more work experience opportunities on set and also for nearby film studios/production companies. Two of the people I will be moving in with are filmmakers (an editor and a cinematographer) so therefore we can collaborate in our free time and they will have equipment/software too.

After university I will apply for funding (crowd funding, BFI Film Fund etc…) and continue to collaborate and make short films. If I feel like I need to improve my specialist role even more, I will apply for a MA course in directing. Either way - if my application for an MA is unsuccessful (if applying for places such as the NFTS) I will continue to make short films and apply again in the future. While I am producing short films I plan to have a part time job which is linked to television or film, and hopefully go on to making a feature film if I acquire enough funding.

Contingency Plan
If I struggle to get into an MA course, or struggle with contacts or funding for short films, I will continue to look through websites such as theunitlist.com and Shooting People for jobs such as production assistant or first assistant director. Also I can try and get work through contacts in the industry (which I will/have made from Long Road Sixth Form, the BFI Regional Academy, the NFTS BFI Film Academy, Arts University Bournemouth, and possibly an MA course in directing). I will also look for a part time job to fund and produce my own films if the above fails.

P2. Evaluating My Own Qualities

Personal characteristics:
I am ambitious, conscientious, and motivated to achieve my goals. I am outgoing, have good communication skills, and work well in groups - as well as working well independently. I manage my time efficiently and meet any required deadlines given to me.

Skills
I am proficient in Adobe software such as Photoshop, Story, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Indesign and After Effects. Skills I wish to develop and improve are working with actors, learning more action verbs for directing, and understanding the technical side of things better in cameras and editing software.

Relevant achievements
I have gained an award for the I.V.C English Student of the Year 2012, had films screened in 10+ film festivals, won a couple of film awards including a BFI award for 'Best Documentary',  gained a Silver Arts Award after attending the BFI Film Academy for a term in 2014 and have since gained a VQ Learner of the Year award for East Anglia.

Experience and interests
I have been a casting director on a short film where we held auditions at Pinewood Studios, which led to me doing some work experience at Pinewood in the Acting Studio. Also, from attending the BFI Film Academy I have been equipped with a more comprehensive knowledge of the industry, and had more practical experience on set. Lastly I have learnt a great deal about the specialist craft I wish to go into through directing on the NFTS BFI Film Academy.

As well as film production, my other interests include writing, photography, photomanipulation and art - which ranges from mixed media paintings to hyperrealist drawings. I also enjoy travelling and learning about new cultures and these trips have gone on to influence my practice.
